The formula
fee = shares × rate × price × (1 − price) on taker fills. Like Kalshi's, the curve peaks at 50¢ and falls toward zero at extreme prices. Category rates change occasionally; the rates above are the schedule in our fee model, sourced from Polymarket's published documentation.
Makers pay nothing and are paid rebates from the taker pool, which is why resting limit orders are the cheap way in — but arbitrage legs are almost always taker orders, because the window closes before a resting order would fill.

What are Polymarket's fees?
A taker fee on fills against resting orders: size × rate × price × (1 − price), where the rate depends on the market's category — roughly 4% for politics, finance, tech and mentions, 5% for sports and most other categories, 7% for crypto, and zero on geopolitics. Makers pay no fee and receive rebates funded by taker fees. Deposits and withdrawals of USDC carry no Polymarket fee, though on-ramps may charge their own.
Are Polymarket fees charged on winnings?
No. The fee is taken on the trade at fill time based on the price, not on the outcome. A position that loses paid the same fee as one that won.
How much is the fee at 50 cents?
With a 5% rate: 100 shares × 0.05 × 0.5 × 0.5 = $1.25, or 2.5% of a $50 stake. At 4% it is $1.00; at 7% it is $1.75 — the same peak as Kalshi.
Kalshi or Polymarket — which is cheaper?
It depends on the category and price. Kalshi's 7% rate matches Polymarket's crypto rate and exceeds its 4–5% politics and sports rates, so for the same price Polymarket is usually cheaper on politics; both are free for makers. The comparison page lists every shared market with both fee schedules.
